Ouranosaurus nigeriensis

Reconstruction of how Ouranosaurus might have looked like in real life

Ouranosaurus(meaning brave lizard) is a dinosaur that belongs to the group known as
Hadrosauriformes, but before it used to be classified into the group known as the Iguanodontia(due to sharing some similarities with iguanodon). Now that we know its classification we can talk about it´s history (but it´s hstory is very short and brief). Ouranosaurus was first discovered in 1965 by Philippe Taquet in the Elrhaz formation, and a second skeleton was found in 1972.

Here is a mounted skeleton of Ouranosaurus

And now let us talk about it´s appearence. It looks like your average hadrosaur when you look at its head, arms, legs, and tail. But when you look at its back you can see something that no other hadrosaur has extremely tall neural spines( I know that there ar eother hadrosaurs with significantly tall neural spines but, Ouranosaurus has the tallest nueral spines of any hadrosaur) the function of these neural spines is still under debate because they don´t know if it sported a sail or a fatty hump. But now that we´ve talked about its sail we can talk about its general stats:

Length: 7-8.3 meters

Weight: 2.2-4 tons

Hieght: 2.9 meters (including the sail)
